Memorial Hermann Heart & Vascular Institute-Southwest recently launched a new Cardiac Rehabilitation Program - a customized curriculum of exercise and education to help patients recover from the effects of cardiovascular disease.
"Cardiac rehabilitation provides patients with the necessary building blocks to live longer and healthier lives," said Tracy McDonald, clinical director of cardiovascular imaging at Memorial Hermann Heart & Vascular Institute-Southwest. "Patients receive personalized exercise programs, nutritional counseling, education and guidance - all tools that will help them make lifestyle changes to better control the effects of heart disease."
The cardiac rehabilitation program is supervised by medical professionals, including exercise specialists to teach proper techniques to avoid injury, as well as education courses led by registered dietitians, nurses and pharmacists.
Programs are tailored to meet the needs of each individual patient, with classes usually lasting up to three months. Rehabilitation classes meet three times a week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
