Memorial Hermann Sugar Land Hospital receives accreditation for bariatric surgery program

SUGAR LAND (February07, 2018)

Memorial Hermann Sugar Land Hospital has been designated as a Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP) Center by the American College of Surgeons (ACS).

“We are proud to receive this accreditation from the American College of Surgeons,” said Greg Haralson, CEO of Memorial Hermann Sugar Land Hospital and Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital.  “This recognition as a Center of Excellence for Bariatric Surgery affirms our commitment to providing high quality care to the communities we serve.”

Memorial Hermann Sugar Land affiliated surgeons perform more than 400 laparoscopic bariatric procedures each year, including gastric banding (lap band), gastric sleeve, gastric bypass and duodenal switch, and even the most difficult bariatric surgery revisions and reversals. ACS designates MBSAQIP Centers as metabolic and bariatric surgery programs with a demonstrated track record of favorable outcomes for weight loss surgery. The rate of surgical complications for MBSAQIP Centers is extremely low.

“At Memorial Hermann Sugar Land, we are honored to have our bariatric surgery program recognized by the ACS,” said Sheilendra Mehta, M.D., Medical Director of the Bariatric Surgery Program at Memorial Hermann Sugar Land. “Our program is committed to providing patients with state-of-the-art bariatric care, using the least invasive, most advanced and safest surgical techniques.”
