Mischer Neuroscience Institute Extends Expertise To Memorial Hermann Community Campuses

The Mischer Neuroscience Institute is extending its neuroscience expertise and capabilities outside the Texas Medical Center and into the West Houston community through the development of Neurosciences Centers of Excellence on two Memorial Hermann community campuses. Mischer Neurosurgical Associates has recruited its first two neurosurgeons - Paul D. Boone, M.D. and Scott Shepard, M.D. - to lead these efforts at the Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center and Memorial Hermann Southwest campuses.
"Dr. Boone and Dr. Shepard will be significant contributors in the development of our neuroscience centers of excellence at the community campuses," said Chris Lloyd, chief of Neurosciences for the Memorial Hermann Healthcare System. "They each bring a distinctive skill set, and when combined with the specialized skill of the neurosurgeons at the Mischer Neuroscience Institute at the Texas Medical Center, patients living in West Houston can now have convenient access to the most comprehensive neurosciences program available in Houston ."
Dr. Boone is a board certified neurosurgeon with expertise in neurosurgical treatment of disorders of the spinal column and spinal cord. He is renowned for his complex spinal reconstructive surgical techniques as well as his minimally invasive approaches to spinal conditions. Dr. Boone will office at the Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center campus.
Dr. Shepard also is a board certified neurosurgeon with expertise in brain and spinal cord tumors, and spinal and pituitary surgeries. He has published numerous journal articles and chapters, as well as presented a variety of topics in the field of neurosurgery nationally and internationally. Dr. Shepard will office at the Memorial Hermann Southwest campus.
Memorial Hermann's Neurosciences Centers are located on the Memorial City Medical Center, Southwest and The Woodlands campuses. They offer comprehensive consultation, evaluation and treatment for patients with a range of disorders, including stroke, brain tumors, spine injuries and spine tumors.
