The Neighborhood Health Center has opened on the campus of Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital in Humble, Texas.

The Center is located in the "9813 Office Building" near the Hwy 59 Feeder Road entrance to Memorial Hermann Northeast.

It is staffed by family nurse practitioners who can treat long-term problems and sudden illnesses, as well as provide regular checkups. The nurse practitioners are under the supervision of John L. Redman, M.D., the Center's medical director. They are qualified to evaluate, provide treatment and prescribe medicine if required.

"We treat long-term problems and sudden illnesses," said Dr. Redman, "but we also can keep patients healthy with regular check ups. Our family nurse practitioners are qualified to evaluate your condition, provide treatment and prescribe medicine if it is required."

The Center treats acute illnesses, including colds, flu, strains and sprains; chronic conditions including high blood pressure, diabetes and asthma; and minor injuries except for fractures, lacerations and head injuries or eye injuries. The Center also provides preventive care, including annual physicals, well-child visits, well-woman exams and immunizations.

For an additional fee, the Center can provide lab tests and injections.

The Center on the Northeast campus is one of three Neighborhood Health Centers established by Memorial Hermann to relieve congestion in the Emergency Departments. Neighborhood Health Centers also are located at Northwest Freeway at West 34th Street near the Memorial Hermann Northwest Hospital campus and at the Southwest Freeway at Beechnut near the Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital campus.

"The intent of the Centers are not to be competition for our primary care providers but rather to provide healthcare for those with limited resources," said Dr. Redman.

Sarah Stanfield, FNP, is a nurse practitioner as well as clinic manager. The Center on the Northeast campus is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Office visits are $48 and cash, checks or credit cards are accepted. The Center does not file insurance claims but can provide a receipt that can be submitted to an insurance provider for reimbursement.
