Officials urge vaccinations

HOUSTON, TX (December19, 2013)

With the confirmation of a second case of the H1N1 virus in Montgomery County Thursday, health officials are continuing to encourage residents to get vaccinated to protect them against flu viruses. The first case of swine flu, or H1N1 virus, was confirmed Wednesday in one of eight people Conroe Regional Medical Center reported to have a mysterious illness at its facility. While four of those eight patients have died, the patient confirmed to have the H1N1 virus is still hospitalized. Dr. Luis Ostrosky, infectious disease specialist at Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center and professor at UTHealth, said there are two ways to prevent contracting the flu: get a flu shot and practice healthy habits.
