HOUSTON, TX (July17,
2012)
TIRR continues to ascend, ranking now among nation's top 3 rehabilitation hospitals in 2012 survey
TIRR Memorial Hermann was recognized today as one of the nation's top rehabilitation hospitals - climbing to number 3 in the country - in the annual U.S. News & World Report's "America's Best Hospitals" rankings.
TIRR Memorial Hermann continues its rise as one of the nation's best rehabilitation hospitals moving up from number four in last year's rankings. The 2012 rankings mark the 23rd consecutive year that TIRR has stood among the top five rehabilitation hospitals across the country.
"It is an exciting day for TIRR Memorial Hermann to be recognized as one of the three best rehabilitation hospitals in the nation by U.S. News & World Report," said Carl E. Josehart, CEO of TIRR Memorial Hermann. "Earning this distinction for 23 consecutive years is a testament to our long-term legacy of leading medical rehabilitation and research and providing excellent care. We are thrilled to move up another spot in the rankings which displays the continued innovation and dedication of our physicians and staff to advance the field of rehabilitation."
This year's Best Hospitals, the 23rd annual edition, showcases more than 720 of the nation's roughly 5,000 hospitals. Fewer than 150 are nationally ranked in at least one of 16 medical specialties. The rest of the recognized hospitals met a standard of performance nearly as demanding in one or more specialties.
The hospital rankings, said U.S. News Health Rankings Editor Avery Comarow, are like a GPS-type aid to help steer patients to hospitals with strong skills in the procedures and medical conditions that present the biggest challenges. Highlights of the 2012-13 rankings will appear in the U.S. News Best Hospitals 2013 guidebook, to go on sale in August.
"All of these hospitals are the kinds of medical centers that should be on your list when you need the best care," said Comarow. "They are where other hospitals send the toughest cases."
Several Memorial Hermann hospitals were also recognized by U.S. News & World Report as "high-performing" in certain specialties, including:
- Memorial Hermann - Texas Medical Center - Nephrology; cancer; cardiology and heart surgery; diabetes and endocrinology; ear, nose and throat; gastroenterology; geriatrics; neurology and neurosurgery; ophthalmology; orthopedics; pulmonology and urology.
