Sleep
Lab Opens at Memorial Hermann Fort Bend Hospital Missouri City, Texas, January 24, 2003
-- According to the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, more than 100
million Americans of all ages fail to get a good night's sleep. For
most people, falling asleep and staying asleep are part of a natural
process. Good sleepers are likely to have developed certain lifestyle
and dietary habits that promote sound sleep. These habits and behaviors
- known as sleep
hygiene - can have positive effects on sleep before, during and
after time spent sleeping. Good sleep hygiene can improve a person's
sleep. If you suffer from sleeplessness for four to six weeks, and you
have tried modifying your sleep and daytime habits, it's time to consider
seeking help from a health care professional or an expert in sleep disorders.
Help is now available close to home with the Fri., Jan. 24 opening of
the new Memorial Hermann Fort Bend
Sleep Disorder Center.
Take the mini quiz
below to find out if you may have a sleep
disorder:
- Do you snore?
- Do you feel fatigued
during the day or awaken feeling unrested?
- Do you have difficulty
sleeping or going to sleep?
- Are you restless
at night?
- Do you have heartburn
at night, blood pressure that is difficult to control, morning headaches
or drowsiness during the day?
If you answered,
"yes," to any of these questions, you may have a sleep disorder
and may qualify to participate in a sleep disorder test. Please check
with your doctor, as a sleep study requires a physician's order. If
you are eligible, call 281-403-8302 to schedule a sleep disorder test
at the Memorial Hermann Fort Bend Sleep Disorder Center. Let us help
you get back to sleep.
