“We aim to provide the best care for patients with colorectal disorders or diseases,” said George Gaston, CEO of the Memorial Hermann Southeast campus. “The addition of full-time colorectal surgical coverage and our new Cancer Center enhances our ability to provide improved GI care from diagnostics to treatment to surgery. The recent opening of the Memorial Hermann Cancer Center at Southeast provides our colon cancer patients advanced technology and personalized care.” Dr. Valerie Bauer comes to Memorial Hermann Southeast as an Assistant Professor at UTMB in Galveston. Dr. Bauer completed her residency at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York and UTMB - Galveston. She completed her fellowship with the Colon and Rectal Clinic at the University of Texas Health Science Center. At Memorial Hermann Southeast, Dr. Bauer will provide full service lower GI endoscopic procedures and treatment of minor outpatient anorectal disease. Dr. Bauer is Board Certified in General Surgery. Dr. Kelly Gilmore-Lynch completed her residency at South Shore Medical Center in New Rochelle, NY and at UT Houston. They will replace their partner, Dr. Darren Pollock, who had been providing the colorectal surgical coverage at Southeast. They will rotate to provide daily coverage for colon and rectal surgical consultations, clinic, colonoscopies, and outpatient anorectal surgeries. “The benefits of the additional physicians are two-fold. Not only does this bring an expansion of our surgical coverage, but it also provides us with new opportunities to expand upon our commitment to enhancing the delivery of colon and rectal care in the Southeast region of Houston,” noted Gaston. The Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital campus is located at 11800 Astoria Boulevard, and includes a 267-bed hospital and two medical plaza buildings for clinical offices and the Memorial Hermann Cancer Center at Southeast. The present facility opened in 1986, though the hospital's history of service to the community dates back to 1963. Specialty services at Memorial Hermann Southeast include heart and vascular care, oncology, advanced diagnostic imaging, outpatient occupational therapy and rehabilitation and physical therapy. The hospital continues to expand and adapt to meet the growing health needs of the community as seen with the recent openings of a state-of-the-art Cancer Center and Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
