Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Named A "Mother-Friendly" Worksite

Houston, Texas, February 23, 2006 – The Texas Department of State Health Services has designated Memorial Hermann The Woodlands a Mother-Friendly worksite, honoring the hospital’s commitment to helping employees who choose to breastfeed when they return to work.

The hospital qualified for this distinction by developing and implementing supportive policies, including flexible work schedules and a private space where the employee can pump or nurse, with easy access to clean water and refrigeration.

“Breastfeeding can give infants a head start to a healthy life and Memorial Hermann recognizes the importance of educating the mothers who give birth here about its potential benefits,” said Jackie Stiernagle, RNC, clinical manager of the Lactation and Perinatal Education Center at Memorial Hermann The Woodlands. “Breastfeeding is a commitment that we encourage our patients to make, so it only makes sense that we provide our employees who are new mothers with an environment that supports their decision to continue breastfeeding.”
