Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital to Build New Facilities
Houston, Texas, March
9, 2004 — Memorial Hermann
Healthcare System announced today that it will address the healthcare
needs of the growing
population served by Memorial Hermann
Katy Hospital and prepare for
projected long-term growth by constructing a new replacement hospital
and physician office building to serve the Katy community. Memorial
Hermann has executed a contract for property near the intersection
of Grand Parkway and Interstate 10. Groundbreaking on the $98 million
project could begin as early as the latter part of 2004 for a planned
2006 opening.
“The relocation of Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital to the Grand
Parkway/I-10 location will place the hospital in the area's population
center and will provide the growing Katy community with easy access
to the highest quality services in a state-of-the-art facility with
capabilities to grow as the community's healthcare needs expand,” said
Dan Wolterman, President and CEO of Memorial Hermann Healthcare System. “While
no firm decisions have been reached with regard to redeployment of
the existing hospital, we expect to put the facility to optimal use
consistent with Memorial Hermann strategies and the needs of the community.”
“We've been a part of the Katy and West Houston community for
more than 20 years,” said Scott Barbe, CEO, Memorial Hermann
Katy Hospital. “Many of our employees and medical staff live
here. We are committed to continuing to provide the healthcare services
for which so many people depend on us. The relocation from our present
facility at Pin Oak and I-10 will ensure we are able to provide our
patients and their families with outstanding care in a state-of-the-art
facility. The new Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital will offer our present
and future medical staff physicians the office space, expanded technology
and services they require to meet their patients' needs for decades
to come.”
In addition, the combined resources of the new Memorial
Hermann Katy Hospital and nearby sister hospital, Memorial
Hermann Memorial City Hospital, will bring to their respective communities a greater depth
and breadth of services.
The new Memorial
Hermann Katy Hospital facility is another step in a five-year strategic
capital initiative program
to meet the region's
growing healthcare needs by expanding and modernizing all nine of Memorial
Hermann's acute-care hospitals in the Greater Houston area. Earlier
this year, three of those hospitals—Memorial
Hermann The Woodlands,
Memorial Hermann Northwest and Memorial
Hermann Memorial City —opened
new patient care towers and introduced other campus enhancements. Additional
program and facility enhancements are ongoing at these and other campuses
in the System.
Memorial Hermann provides comprehensive, quality programs and services
for a person's whole life. Through its 11 hospitals located in the
Texas Medical Center and the greater Houston area, Memorial Hermann
offers a patient-centric approach to medicine, the convenience of health
care in neighborhoods where people live and work and easy access to
the resources and technology of a university-affiliated teaching hospital.
