Operations Executive
to Retire from Memorial Hermann Houston, Texas,
March 15, 2004 – One
of the senior executives who led operations for Memorial Hermann
Healthcare System as it grew from three hospitals
to eleven, making it one of the largest not-for-profit healthcare systems
in the country, has announced his retirement effective June 30, 2004.
Ken Wine joined Memorial Hermann 22 years ago as CEO for Memorial
Hermann Southwest Hospital. In 1983 he was named senior vice president of the healthcare system,
and in 1994 he assumed his present role as executive vice president and COO.
“Over the
years, Ken has guided Memorial Hermann through a series of transitions
and changes, always working to ensure that operations remained strong and consistent
with our commitment to deliver quality healthcare in the community,” said
Memorial Hermann Healthcare System CEO, Dan Wolterman. “He is a remarkable
business leader and a true friend. While I am happy for Ken and his wife and
family, we will greatly miss his keen insights.”
As a fellow of
the American College of Healthcare Executives, Wine serves on the
HealthShare board
of the Texas Hospital Association. He is a past ACHE
regent of the Texas-Energy/Space Center; chairman of the board of the Greater
Houston Hospital Council; board member, Sam Houston Council, Boy Scouts
of America; board member, Northwest Assistance Ministries; and a
member of the
advisory board of the Good Samaritan Foundation. Last fall, he was presented
with one of Memorial Hermann’s highest honors — the Dan S. Wilford
Spirit Award, named for the past president and presented annually to the
individual who exemplifies exceptional leadership qualities. Until his retirement
on June
30, Wine will work to assure a smooth transition of his responsibilities
to other members of the Memorial Hermann executive team.
