Memorial Hermann Selects Francis (Frank) X. Speidel As Chief Medical Officer for Northeast Campus
 

Houston, Texas Memorial Hermann Healthcare System announces the appointment of Francis (Frank) X. Speidel, MD as Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital.  Dr. Speidel assumes the CMO position on June 10, 2008.

As CMO, Dr Speidel will be a member of the hospital’s administrative management staff while assisting the Northeast campus medical staff leadership in fulfilling their obligations in areas of clinical quality, regulatory compliance, credentialing and peer review. He also will work closely with the medical executive committee and chief of staff on medical staff issues.

Dr. Speidel previously served as senior vice president for medical affairs and chief quality officer at Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College, Penn.

Dr. Speidel has more than 30 years of experience in clinical health care and administration.  He served as director of Emergency Medicine at hospitals in Pennsylvania and Delaware, as Emergency Medical Services medical director for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and as a vice-president for medical affairs and ethics facilitator for the Tenet Health System.

Dr. Speidel received his bachelor of art’s degree in physics from Kalamazoo College where he was the recipient of the Oakley Prize as outstanding senior physics major.  He earned his master’s in business administration from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania with majors in finance and information systems. 

Dr. Speidel earned his medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine and completed his residency at the Medical College of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.  He is board certified in emergency medicine by the American Board of Emergency Medicine since 1981.

During his time with the United States Navy, Dr. Speidel served as the senior flight surgeon for the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, as senior medical officer for the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, and as executive and commanding officer for the 4th Marine Aircraft Wing.

He is a member of the American Medical Association, the American College of Emergency Physicians, the British Association for Accident and Emergency Medicine, the Society of US Navy Flight Surgeons, the American College of Physician Executives and the Health Information Management Systems Society.

Dr. Speidel and his wife, Doreen, a native of Kingwood, have one son, Connor.
