Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital Named Chest Pain Center
Katy, Texas – Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital has earned national accreditation as a Chest Pain Center. The designation recognizes that the hospital’s physicians, staff and processes meet stringent criteria set by the Society of Chest Pain Centers.
“We have educated our staff to follow meticulously developed plans to appropriately treat all chest pain patients, from the time they arrive at the Emergency Center until they leave the hospital,” said Anil Odhav, M.D., medical director of Memorial Hermann Katy’s chest pain program. “We assess and treat all categories of chest pain patients, from low-risk to serious heart attacks. Patients receive clot-busting drug treatment, which is often vital to survival, an average of 19 minutes after arriving at the hospital. If necessary, we will transfer them to a hospital with a comprehensive heart program, such as nearby Memorial Hermann Heart and Vascular Institute-Memorial City.”
Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital has dedicated four outpatient observation rooms to treating chest pain patients. The average stay is about 20 hours, and the nurses have advanced training for monitoring cardiac patients.
The three-year designation will transfer from the current location to the new Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital when it opens in December at Interstate 10 and the Grand Parkway.
“Early treatment is essential in treating heart attacks, so it is important for patients to know the warning signs,” said Kay Sword, Chest Pain Center coordinator. “If you experience shortness of breath, fainting, dizziness, sweating, vomiting or pain in the jaw, arm, neck, back or upper stomach, call 911 immediately.”
