Houston, Texas, July 8, 2003 -- The
latest chapter in the community expansion of Memorial Hermann Healthcare
System has been written at Memorial
Hermann Northwest Hospital, where
physicians, their staff and other hospital employees this week marked
completion of a new $68.7 million, 165,000-square-foot patient tower.
Ceremonies culminating the South Tower construction project included
a chaplain’s blessing of the building as well as the hands
of medical staff and employees, the unveiling of the cornerstone
and a dramatic Memorial Hermann
Life Flight flyover.
Development of
Memorial Hermann Northwest Hospital’s South
Tower represents the second in a series of hospital expansions and
improvements
that Memorial Hermann initiated in 2001 as part of an ongoing commitment
to meet growing patient demand throughout the Houston-area communities
it serves.
“
For nearly 40 years, Memorial Hermann Northwest Hospital has had the
privilege of serving the health care needs of our northwest Houston
neighbors,” said hospital CEO Chris Vasquez. “This
expansion is our gift to the community and one that affords us
the space and
technology to continue providing the exceptional level of health
care that every family deserves and has come to expect.”
Memorial
Hermann Northwest Hospital’s new South Tower houses
a family birthing center, a 30-bed unit designed to allow mother
and baby to stay together following birth. The center is equipped
with
a three-room C-section suite to handle most emergency situations.
In its Level I and II nurseries, skilled staff care for all but
the most
critically ill newborns. Should a higher level of care be required,
Memorial Hermann Children's Hospital's specialized Neonatal Transport
service is readily available.
A sunlight-filled,
16,000-square-foot ambulatory medicine center offers patients a one-stop,
total
return-to-wellness program
personalized to fit their lifestyles, with comprehensive outpatient
rehabilitation
services, including physical, occupational, speech, aquatic
and hand therapy, diabetes education and more.
The South Tower
also features an outpatient testing center, 40-bed orthopedic/surgical
unit and a learning/training center complete with
a medical research library open to the public.
The new facility
will officially open to patients on July 14. Meantime, ongoing renovations
to the hospital’s North Tower include expansion
of the intensive care unit, three new surgical rooms and expansion
of food services. An 804-vehicle parking garage and new administrative
building have already improved access for patients, families, physicians
and staff.
In addition to
a brick and mortar expansion to meet the growth of the community,
Memorial Hermann Northwest Hospital is
investing in
personnel,
with a medical staff that has grown to include more than 600 physicians
representing most specialties.
Memorial Hermann
Northwest Hospital is located at 1635 North Loop West at Ella Boulevard.
