News Releases Memorial
Hermann Laboratory Services Recognized as Among Nation's Very
Best
Houston,
Texas,
July 15, 2004
-- The
Memorial Hermann Laboratory Services system has been named first runner
up for Medical Laboratory Observer’s [MLO’s]
2004 Laboratory of the Year Award in recognition of the high-quality,
physician- and patient-focused services it provides throughout the Houston
area.
A respected medical trade magazine, MLO recruited
a panel of leading laboratory experts to evaluate facilities across
the country. Memorial Hermann Laboratory Services’ efficient,
citywide system impressed the judges. That system includes more than
500 employees at two hospital-based core laboratories and six essential-services
labs within community hospitals who provide doctors and their patients
with prompt, dependable results.
“Memorial Hermann Healthcare System in Houston pitted itself
against the likes of the laboratories at the Armed Forces Institute
of Pathology, the David Grant United States Air Force Medical Center,
and Chicago’s Northwestern Memorial Hospital, and Memorial Hermann
was easily judged a leader,” said MLO editor Carren
Bersch. “While the Cleveland Clinic Foundation was ultimately
ranked number one, the Memorial Hermann Laboratory System, as first
runner up, certainly earned its bragging rights in this competition.”
Memorial Hermann Laboratory Services processed more than 9 million
results in 2003 while improving its physician and patient satisfaction
ratings.
“Our stringent quality program, our operational excellence,
and our reliance on teamwork differentiated us from our peers,” said
Jim Faucett, Memorial Hermann’s vice president of laboratory
services.
