Garden Spa Branches Out
In-Room Spa Services Offered to Hospital Patients Houston, November
7, 2003 – Memorial Hermann, the first healthcare
system in Texas to open a full-service day spa, is again leading the
way by taking spa
services to the patient’s bedside. Offerings
that include herbal skin treatments, massage, facials, and hair and
make-up styling relieve stress and provide a healing lift for hospitalized
patients.
Memorial Hermann
Garden Spa Director Barbara Walling says the concept isn’t entirely new. “In the early 1900s, patients could
expect evening backrubs so they could sleep better at night,” says
Walling. “But that practice was lost over the years. Today we
recognize the healing role those types of services can play, so we’re
bringing them back in the hope that they will enhance the patient experience.”
While
the services are currently offered at Memorial
Hermann Hospital,
Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital and Memorial
Hermann Fort Bend Hospital, Memorial
Hermann Memorial City Hospital will begin offering the services on Dec. 1.
As demand grows,
so will the staff of the Garden Spa. Licensed massage therapists are encouraged to apply for
positions. Future therapists
are also being trained through the massage therapy school which
is located within the Memorial Hermann Garden Spa.
Physician referrals are not required for the in-room services,
which are available as single or packaged treatments at prices
that range
from $25 to $175. To order, patients, friends, or family may call
713-448-4SPA.
