Memorial Hermann Northwest Hospital has been awarded the ENERGY STAR label by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for the second year in a row.  As of 2009, only five hospitals in Texas and 42 nation-wide have been designated as Energy Star labeled facilities.

 Houston, Texas -Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital is the first in Houston to offer the Third Eye Retroscope, a technology that allows physicians to have a more complete view during colonoscopy exams and better identify abnormalities in the colon. Operating as a “rear-view mirror,” the Third Eye Retroscope helps to visualize potential blind spots in the colon that can be missed during a traditional colonoscopy. Physicians are now able to see between the folds of the colon wall where cancers, polyps and other abnormalities may be hiding.

Hope for sinus sufferers in new procedure at Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital
 Balloon Sinuplasty is similar in concept to angioplasties that treat congestive heart failure.  The procedure uses tiny balloons inserted via a catheter through the nostril into the sinus cavity and then slowly inflated to open blocked sinuses. The balloon(s) are then deflated and removed and the sinuses are restored to normal drainage and function.

Rise in ATV injuries prompts warning from trauma specialists
At Children’s Memorial Hermann, trauma specialists treated 29 children with ATV related injuries in 2007, and in 2008, they treated 46, an increase of 58 percent. In 2009 to date, specialists already have treated 37 children, including one fatality.

Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital Debuts Two New Ambulances
 HOUSTON – Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital, home to the Gulf Coast region’s only Level I pediatric trauma center and one of only two in Texas, today unveiled two new ambulances that are so advanced they will serve as mobile pediatric intensive care units.  The vehicles are designated Specialized Emergency Medical Services Vehicles, which is a level above Advanced Life Support ambulances and signal that the vehicle is carrying extra personnel with specialized medical training. Children’s Memorial Hermann recently became the first pediatric hospital in the region to receive certification as a Level I pediatric trauma center from the American College of Surgeons. The new ambulances will enable the Children’s Transport Team to transfer more children from throughout the region for Level I care at the hospital.
