Patient Stories - Weight-Loss Surgery (Bariatrics)
Bariatric surgery offers people who have lived with obesity for years a healthier alternative. Many of our patients have tried everything to lose weight, from medically supervised programs to over-the-counter plans to dangerous herbal supplements. Some have lost hundreds of pounds – over and over again – before choosing bariatric surgery.
Weight-loss surgery is not a miracle cure. After your procedure you'll have to make a lifelong commitment to yourself. You'll have to follow proven guidelines for long-term success, including learning to make good food choices, exercising regularly and finding new ways to cope with stress. While you may find your new life challenging at first, committing to these important personal practices will maximize the benefits of your surgery.
Like any surgical procedure, weight-loss surgery is not without risk. But as you'll learn by reading these personal stories of success, more often than not it results in greater self-esteem, confidence and a healthier, happier life.
