The Scroth Method

Developed by Katharina Schroth in the 1800s, the Schroth method uses personalized physical therapy to treat scoliosis, typically in adolescents and adults. Customized for each patient based on the curvature of their spine, the method can be an alternative, nonsurgical option for scoliosis treatment.

The physical therapy exercises typically focus on: restoring muscular symmetry and alignment, breathing into the concave side of the body, and correcting posture. When therapy is successful, this method can help halt progression of the curved spine, and encourage its restoration to a more natural state.

Memorial Hermann Sports medicine & Rehabilitation offers the Schroth Method for scoliosis at several of our SM&R locations.
