Physician Biography
A graduate of the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, Dr. Holmes completed a fellowship in medical oncology at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, where she served on the faculty as an associate professor of breast medical oncology. She is board certified in internal medicine and medical oncology.
Patient Care and Research
Her professional career has focused on the treatment and research for curing breast cancer. At MD Anderson, Dr. Holmes performed the first clinical trial of paclitaxel (Taxol) resulting in approval for breast cancer. After 15 years of practicing at MD Anderson, she joined Texas Oncology. She is an active member of the Breast Cancer Research Committee with The US Oncology Network and served as the principal investigator for the clinical trial that led to the approval of pegfilgrastim (Neulasta) for prevention of low white blood cells from chemotherapy.
Dr. Holmes has also been recognized annually among Texas Monthly's "Best Doctors in Texas" since 2004. She excels at delivering cutting-edge therapies in an emotionally supportive environment, helping her patients reconnect to the joys of life with lots of hugs, laughter and the occasional pink boa.
Lecturer and Program Director
In addition to patient care and research, she is a frequent lecturer on supportive care issues and new treatments, and serves as Program Director for the School of Breast Oncology, an annual, national comprehensive course updating physicians on the latest breast cancer treatments and technologies. At Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center, she participates in monthly multidisciplinary discussions with her colleagues addressing breast cancer treatment issues and advances.

A Fellow of the American College of Physicians, Dr. Holmes is a member of numerous local, national and international medical societies, including the American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Association of Therapeutic Radiation and Oncology, American Medical Association, American Association for Cancer Research, European Society of Medical Oncology, American Society of Breast Diseases.
Married with one son, Dr. Holmes enjoys reading and walking her SPCA rescue dogs, Woody and Cinnamon, when away from the office.
