One way to judge healthcare quality is to measure the efficiency and extent to which specific assessments and treatments are provided. Administering aspirin to heart attack victims is a familiar example. When this is done within 24 hours of a heart attack, the victim’s chances of survival increase.

Memorial Hermann measures widely accepted clinical indicators in cases of heart attack (acute myocardial infarction), heart failure (congestive heart failure) and pneumonia – three of the most common reasons for hospitalization. These evidence-based measures were developed by The Joint Commission (TJC), in conjunction with the American Hospital Association (AHA) and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
