Memorial Hermann’s innovative technology offerings include the
da Vinci® Surgical System, the first operative surgical robotic
system in the world approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration
(FDA). The da Vinci Surgical System integrates robotics, computer technology
and surgical skill to simplify a number of existing surgeries, transforming
traditionally invasive surgeries into minimally invasive procedures.
Two of Memorial Hermann's da Vinci systems are used clinically for a variety of surgical procedures, while the third is an essential component of the Memorial Hermann Institute for Cardiovascular Research and Robotics Technology. This training and research center opened in January 2003 and already has trained numerous surgical teams from around the country. It is the largest training site for robotic surgery in the nation and the only one in the southwest. The research center allows physicians affiliated with Memorial Hermann to be at the forefront of this groundbreaking technology.
