Year-round Teen Program
The Year-round Teen Program is set up for those students who want to volunteer all year long, not just during the summer. We require that you commit at least 3 hours each week, for a minimum of six months. You must begin volunteering between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. It’s ideal to begin your volunteer training on a school in-service day or holiday.
Volunteers in the Year-round Teen Program will begin their service in our Supplemental Paths program, where the first 15 hours of volunteer work will be spent doing a number of different activities that will help orient you to the layout and services provided by the hospital. Once 15 hours have been served, you may request an assignment in a particular area of the hospital. If your schedule matches the needs of the unit in which you wish to volunteer, you will be trained and continue your service in that placement. Opportunities for cross-training are available, and encouraged.
You may volunteer on the weekends once your Supplemental Paths (training period) is through, but you may not BEGIN volunteering on the weekends or after 5 p.m. Your first 15 hours must be served while the Volunteer Services staff is here to assist you. Once you have become more familiar with the hospital, you may change your schedule to include weekends.
