On Thursday, March 24, Memorial Hermann’s Heroes in Health hosted more than 80 guests at a reception with Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital affiliated physicians. The event, which highlighted six critical care specialists from McGovern Medical School at UTHealth, allowed physicians to discuss their pediatric subspecialties and their current research projects one-on-one with guests. Dr. Mary Austin, Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatric Surgery; Dr. Lindsay Crawford, Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery; Dr. Charles Cox, Co-Director of the Memorial Hermann Texas Trauma Institute and Director of the Pediatric Trauma Program; Dr. Kevin Lally, Professor and Chairman of the Department of Pediatric Surgery; Dr. Alfred Mansour, Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery and Director of Pediatric Orthopedics; and Dr. David Sandberg, Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Pediatric Neurosurgery and Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Memorial Hermann Mischer Neuroscience Institute at the Texas Medical Center, all wowed the group as guests enjoyed food catered by Tony’s at the beautiful Hanover Post Oak. Topics included pediatric orthopedic surgery, neurosurgery, emergency services and general surgery.
Through the hospital’s academic partnership with McGovern Medical School, Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital provides Houston’s tiniest premature infants, children and adolescents access to state-of-the-art technology and research, the most advanced treatment therapies and highly specialized surgeries. The hospital treats more than 20,000 children annually and is Houston’s longest standing Level I pediatric trauma center. “Children admitted to our hospital receive the most comprehensive and highest quality care offered in Southeast Texas. The incredible physicians joining us tonight represent Memorial Hermann’s dedication and commitment to our young patients,” shared Susie Distefano, senior vice president and CEO of Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital.
