Advanced practice provider Elizabeth Duran is board-certified as an adult-gerontology acute care nurse practitioner (AGACNP-BC) and a critical care nurse (CCRN). She is also certified in advanced cardiovascular life support (ACLS) and basic life support (BLS).

Elizabeth earned an associate degree in nursing from Houston Baptist University, followed by an undergraduate degree in nursing from The University of Texas and a master’s in adult gerontology-acute care nursing practice from Texas Woman’s University. She is bilingual in English and Spanish.

Beginning at a very young age, Elizabeth felt a strong attraction to health care; frequently her dolls and stuffed animals were wrapped in gauze and plastered with adhesive bandages. As a nurse practitioner, she is particularly interested in the effects that stress and nutrition have on overall health and life expectancy. She believes that the best approach to patient care is to build trusting relationships, starting with educating about preventive care, and to help patients understand their conditions when they are ill. Providing information and then guiding patients through the decision-making process are essential to her role as a health educator.

Elizabeth is a member of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses and Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society of Nursing. She has extensive experience in ICU settings, including cardiothoracic, cardiovascular, transplant, shock-trauma, coronary care, medical intensive care and surgical intensive care. She has also served as a clinical nurse and clinical coach for cancer patients and a clinical coach for nursing students.

In her leisure time, Elizabeth likes to learn about the universe, because she feels that human beings have won the cosmic lottery by existing on a planet that is so beautiful and full of life. She also enjoys traveling, the performing arts and spending time with loved ones.
