Dr. Deepa Somcio, MD

Board certified family medicine specialist Dr. Deepa Somcio treats patients of all ages for the full range of primary care conditions. She earned her undergraduate degree in chemical engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and her medical degree at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. After medical school, she completed a residency in family medicine and a fellowship in family medicine obstetrics at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, followed by a faculty development fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine.

Dr. Somcio performs a wide variety of office-based procedures including joint injections, skin procedures and women’s health measures such as placement of contraceptive devices. One of her primary clinical interests is prenatal care and delivery, and she describes being part of such a special time for families as a unique privilege.

Her approach to care emphasizes developing partnerships with her patients, empowering them to make healthy lifestyle choices and giving them tools and treatment options to cope with illness when it occurs. Her major strength as a physician is her approachability combined with the practice of evidenced-based medicine, which she considers key to successful care. She listens closely to what her patients are saying, as well as what they may not be saying.

Dr. Somcio’s practice has global aspect. After earning her medical degree in Baylor’s international health track, she participated in family medicine programs in Israel/West Bank, Ghana and Honduras as part of international health rotations during her residency.
