A native Houstonian, Dr. Andrew Kopel earned his undergraduate degree from The University of Texas at Austin and his medical degree from McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth). He completed an internship in internal medicine and a residency in ophthalmology at Tulane Medical School in New Orleans, followed by a fellowship in vitreoretinal diseases and surgery at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.

Board certified in ophthalmology, Dr. Kopel has been in practice since 2001. He specializes in diseases and surgery of the retina and vitreous; treats glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, retinal disorders, eye pain and diabetic retinopathy. He also performs LASIK surgery.

He received the O’Brien Award for excellence in research at Tulane. During his fellowship at Baylor, he published articles on topics including age-related macular degeneration, macular hole repair and endophthalmitis.

Dr. Kopel is married and has three children. His favorite leisure activities are spending time with his family, traveling, playing tennis and learning Spanish.
