Dr. Gene Kim, MD

Dr. Gene Kim earned his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He completed a residency in ophthalmology at the Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta and a fellowship in cornea, external disease and refractive surgery at the John A. Moran Eye Center of the University of Utah in Salt Lake City.

Board certified in ophthalmology, Dr. Kim’s sub-specialty is cornea and external disease and refractive surgery. His primary clinical interests are cataracts, dry eye, corneal transplantation, refractive surgery (LASIK/PRK) and vision correction surgery (Phakic Intraocular Lens). In practice since 2011, he treats patients three years and older and speaks Korean. Dr. Kim is also a clinical assistant professor and assistant director of medical student education in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) Medical School, where he has received several teaching awards.

Dr. Kim believes that many times patients are lost in medical jargon and are merely given instructions on what to do without proper knowledge of their actual issue. He believes in fully explaining medical conditions, helping patients to understand what is going on, and encouraging teamwork throughout treatment, an approach that improves patient outcomes. He also places a value on spending time with patients during their visits and taking the time to listen to all their needs.

Dr. Kim is a resident of Houston.
