Dr. William Douglas’ Pediatric Cardiac Mission Trip to Santa Cruz, Bolivia
Children’s Memorial Hermann’s pediatric cardiovascular surgeon, Dr. William Douglas, has been conducting annual mission trips to Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia for the past seven years. Along with his team of 19 medical staff members, all of whom volunteer their time and services, Dr. Douglas spends 10 days providing cardiac care to the underserved pediatric patients of the area. To date, more than 100 cardiac surgeries and interventional catheterizations have been performed.
The total monetary budget for these annual missions is less than the cost to perform just one heart surgery in the United States; however, without the support of generous donors, like Leslie Alexander and the Houston Rockets, these mission trips would not be possible. Philanthropic support helps fund airfare for the medical staff, as well as essential medical equipment to serve the cardiac needs of the children of Santa Cruz.
Please consider making a gift today to continue the vital international work of Dr. Bill Douglas. For more information, please contact the Memorial Hermann Foundation at 713-242-4400 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
