HUMBLE, TEXAS (March 27, 2015)

Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital once again has been named a Get with the Guidelines®-Stroke Gold Plus hospital by the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association (AHA/ASA).

The AHA/ASA’s criteria to earn the distinction includes 85 percent or higher adherence to the AHA/ASA’s guideline equality indicators for two or more consecutive 12-month intervals and 75 percent or higher compliance with at least six of the 10 quality measures. These indicators are a direct reflection of the quality of care that patients receive at Memorial Hermann Northeast.

“Our Gold Plus award demonstrates Memorial Hermann Northeast’s commitment to being one of the top hospitals in the country for providing aggressive, proven stroke care,” said Heath Rushing, Sr. Vice President and Chief Executive Officer at Memorial Hermann Northeast. “We are committed to these guidelines because they are a critical step in saving the lives and improving outcomes of stroke patients in the communities we serve.”

In order to achieve this designation, Memorial Hermann Northeast also demonstrated the ability to reduce the amount of time patients must stay in the hospital as well as reducing the patient readmission rate. Memorial Hermann Northeast is a certified Primary Stroke Center and for the second consecutive year has been recognized as an AHA/ASA Get with the Guidelines®-Stroke Gold Plus hospital.

Stroke is the fourth leading cause of death and the leading cause of long-term disability, according to the AHA/ASA. On average, someone suffers a stroke every 40 seconds, someone dies of a stroke every four minutes and 795,000 people suffer a new or recurrent stroke each year.
