“The whole thing started as a way to provide a convenient location for our staff and visitors to purchase fresh, seasonal, affordable produce,” says Roon Bergen, operations manager, Memorial Hermann Sugar Land. “So far the response has been wonderful and they just keep getting bigger each time we do them.”
Since its launch, the farmer’s market has expanded to include cooking demonstrations from the hospital’s executive chef, Duc Truong. Chef Truong works to create healthy recipes using the fresh produce available through the market. Bergen hopes the market will eventually expand to add more produce from local farmers in Fort Bend County.
The next farmer’s market is scheduled for November 8 from 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. in the lower level connector between the east and west tower. The farmer’s market is open to the public.
