Awards demonstrate Hospital's Commitment to Quality Care for Stroke, Heart Failure Patients

Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Hospital recently received the Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Gold Plus Performance Achievement Award and the Get With The Guidelines®-Heart Failure Bronze Performance Achievement Award from the American Heart Association / American Stroke Association for excellence in the treatment of patients with stroke and heart failure.

Get With The Guidelines is a quality improvement initiative that provides hospital staff with effective tools that follow proven evidence-based guidelines and procedures in caring for stroke and heart failure patients to improve outcomes, prevent future hospitalizations and prolong life.

According to the American Heart Association / American Stroke Association, about 5.7 million people suffer from heart failure. Statistics also show that, each year, 670,000 new cases are diagnosed and more than 277,000 people will die of heart failure. Stroke also is a leading cause of death and serious, long-term disability in the United States. On average, someone suffers a stroke every 40 seconds; someone dies of a stroke every four minutes; and 795,000 people suffer a new or recurrent stroke each year.
