HOUSTON (March 30, 2015)

A new boutique has opened in Houston in a location where you’d least expect it.

While you won’t find Kendra Scott jewels or Elaine Turner handbags at the new Honeysuckle Boutique at Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center, you will find all the resources and products a new mom needs for her breastfeeding journey.

“Research studies continue to show that breastfeeding is beneficial to babies and Moms,” said Coral Dicks, RN, lactation consultant at Memorial Hermann Memorial City. “It reduces a child’s risk for developing many types of infections, and helps a Mom recover from the stress of pregnancy, labor and delivery.

For these reasons and more, we strongly encourage breastfeeding and strive to make it an enjoyable experience for our new families. That is where the Honeysuckle Boutique comes in – it is a beautiful, yet comfortable setting where our patients can access lactation services and products they need before, during and after their hospital stay.”

Located on the second floor of the Memorial Hermann Tower at 929 Gessner, the Honeysuckle Boutique is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and is staffed by internationally board-certified lactation consultants. Products available at the boutique include, but aren’t limited to:

  • Nursing pillows for singletons and twins;
  • Hands free pumping bras;
  • Breastfeeding products such as nursing pads, nipple cream and nipple shields;
  • Nursing covers;
  • Sleep sacks and swaddle blankets;
  • Educational materials (books and DVDs);
  • Hospital-grade pump rentals;
  • and more.

In addition to product sales, a full spectrum of lactation services is available to new moms. Before birth, patients have access to pre-natal breastfeeding classes, bra-fitting and sales, and outpatient lactation consultation for those concerned about previous breast surgeries, inverted or flat nipples or previous difficulty breastfeeding. During their stay, patients have access to lactation consultants 24/7. After they go home, outpatient lactation consultation also is available, as well as pump rentals, bra fittings and sales, and free phone support by calling the breastfeeding hotline at 713-242-4HER (4437). Some service fees may apply and appointments are required for outpatient lactation consultation.
