HOUSTON (October 31, 2013)

Houston’s premier drug and alcohol rehabilitation center, Memorial Hermann Prevention and Recovery Center (PaRC),has expanded outside the greater Houston area with the opening of a new outpatient substance abuse treatment facility in Austin.

“We have a 30-year history of helping individuals and families recover from substance abuse in Houston and are proud to expand our services into Austin,” said Matt Feehery, CEO of PaRC. “There is a need for more substance abuse treatment resources for adolescents in Austin. We believe this new facility will be a valuable addition to families in the area.”

PaRC’s new Austin office provides treatment to adolescents and adults to help build a strong foundation for lifelong recovery from drug and alcohol abuse. The treatment program is based on the 12-step recovery model and includes individual, group and family counseling. Treatment services are offered in the evening, which enables patients to maintain their day-to-day work or school routine.

PaRC’s treatment approach includes activities through which clients are taught lessons in a classroom-style learning environment, in addition to more dynamic modalities where patients complete hands-on activities—such as art and role-play—to learn about addiction, relapse prevention and effective behavior.

Since addiction affects the entire family, PaRC also provides family-centered counseling and education to help family members identify ways they can support their loved one in treatment and create an awareness of the changes needed to occur.

“The family system plays an important role in the treatment process,” said Stacie Allphin, Director Adolescent Services at PaRC. “We bring the family together and discuss topics such as family roles, communication and boundaries through role-play activities that encourage the family to interact in more effective ways. It’s an eye-opening experience for most people who take part.”

Once the primary treatment services are complete, patients can participate in an inclusive relapse prevention and aftercare program for one year. To enhance the recovery process, teens are encouraged to connect with peers who have completed the program and provide ongoing age-appropriate sober support.
