Dr. Prasun Shah, MD

Dr. Prasun Shah completed his medical degree at the B. J. Medical College & Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad, India, where he also completed his residency in general surgery. He completed his residency in internal medicine and his fellowship in gastroenterology at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn though New York University Langone Health.

Board certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology, he treats adult patients 18 years of age and older. He treats a wide array of gastrointestinal complaints from abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, weight loss or weight gain, lack of appetite and gastrointestinal bleeding. He has a keen interest in liver and pancreatic diseases, as well as inflammatory bowel disease and irritable bowel syndromes. He has special interest in intestinal motility and microbiome. He performs diagnostic and therapeutic upper endoscopies and colonoscopies as well as screening colonoscopies. He is trained in advance procedures like endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), a procedure used to diagnose diseases of the gallbladder, biliary system, pancreas and liver, as well as endoscopic ultrasound and large polyp removal.

Dr. Shah believes in patient-centered care and views his role as an advocate for his patients. Helping patients to achieve their health goals is his focus. He strives to ensure patients understand their medical conditions as well as the treatment and preventive measures available to them, so they may make well- informed decisions.

In his spare time, he enjoys listening to music and playing tennis and soccer.
