Dr. Seifeldin Hakim is a board-certified specialist in gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition and is an advanced endoscopist. In addition to English, he speaks Arabic fluently.

After finishing his medical degree, and internship at Ain Shams University in Cairo, Egypt, Dr. Hakim completed Internal Medicine residency at Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine. He came to Houston for a fellowship in gastroenterology, hepatology, and nutrition at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston and The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, followed by a second fellowship in advanced endoscopy at Columbia University Irving Medical Center and New York Presbyterian Hospitals in New York City.

Dr. Hakim was motivated to become a gastroenterologist after a long-time friend was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease. He witnessed the devastating impact the disease had but was inspired by his friend’s return to normalcy after medical treatment.

His primary clinical interests are pancreatic and biliary diseases. Dr. Hakim’s additional year of fellowship training gave him significant expertise in advanced procedures such as endoscopic ultrasounds and ERCP (endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography, a procedure that combines upper GI endoscopy and x-rays to treat problems of the bile and pancreatic ducts.)

Dr. Hakim utilizes his innate attention to detail to approach patient care in a systematic manner. He listens to what patients say and how they describe their symptoms, explains the possible diagnoses and then proceeds to the next step, whether it is blood work, an imaging test or a procedure. Immediately before a procedure he reviews the process with the patient and shares findings immediately afterward. His greatest satisfaction in practicing medicine is to help people see improvement in their health and their quality of life.
