Karen M. Tart, MD, graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in human biology from the University of Texas at Austin. She then received her medical degree from the McGovern Medical School at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston with the distinction of being inducted into the national medical honor society, Alpha Omega Alpha. She completed her residency at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock.
Dr. Tart treats all general urological conditions for male and female patients 18 years and older. Her medical training and minimally invasive surgical expertise allows her to evaluate and treat a wide range of urological problems such as kidney stones, incontinence, enlarged prostates, overactive bladder, obstructions of the urinary tract, sexual dysfunction as well as cancers of the kidney, bladder and prostate. Dr. Tart understands the sensitive nature of seeking care for urological conditions as she creates a caring and comfortable environment for her patients. Her goal is to partner with her patients by listening closely to understand their symptoms and reach an outcome to improve their quality of life. Dr. Tart wants her patients to have a clear understanding of their conditions and know all options available so they can choose the best plan according to their needs.
She is especially interested in the latest surgical advancements, such as neuromodulation (Interstim) and Botox injections for overactive bladder and Urolift and GreenLight laser procedures for enlarged prostates. She also performs robotic surgery to help improve patient’s recovery time and outcomes. In the clinic, patients are able to have vasectomies, cystoscopies and prostate biopsies.
In her spare time, Dr. Tart enjoys traveling and being outdoors gardening, fishing and scuba diving. If she’s not outdoors, you’ll probably catch her at a local restaurant or experimenting with new recipes at home.
