Pediatric Forensic Nursing Services provides compassionate, comprehensive care 24 hours a day to pediatric patients (ages 17 and younger) with concern for sexual abuse/assault that has occurred in the last five days (120 Hours). Pediatric patients requiring pediatric forensic nursing care who present to other Memorial Hermann hospitals will be transferred to Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital, located at Memorial Hermann – TMC, a Sexual Assault Forensic Examination (SAFE)-Ready Designated facility.
The Pediatric Emergency Center at Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital has a designated treatment room containing specialized equipment for use in the pediatric medical/forensic assessment. Assessment information is used to care for the health and welfare of the child. The pediatric forensic nurse adheres to all mandatory reporting laws.
Forensic Nursing Services works as a member of the multidisciplinary team, helping to bridge health care and community agencies while keeping the child’s health and safety in mind.
