Anita Thompkins completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Spalding University in Louisville, Ken. She went on to complete her Master of Science in Nursing to become a family nurse practitioner at Walden University in Minneapolis, Minn. In 2016, she received her Family Nurse Practitioner certification from the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. Later, she received her Adult-gerontology Acute Care Post-Master’s Certificate from The University of Texas at Arlington College of Nursing and Health Innovation. She is board certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) as an AG-ACNP.

A dual certified nurse practitioner, Anita began her career as a registered nurse (RN). She has served as educator, teacher and mentor to new as well as experienced nurses. Having cared for patients with a variety of health challenges, she has gained valuable experience and understanding in meeting patients’ needs over the years. Working to become a nurse practitioner, she began rigorous graduate level education that focused on advanced physical assessment, diagnosis and management of chronic health conditions as well as critical and acute disease states.

Anita has had extensive training and education in caring for patients with cardiac disease. She is experienced in treating patients with shortness of breath or patients who have undergone coronary artery bypass grafting, cardiac ablations or valve replacements as well as patients with hypertension and those who require chronic anticoagulation for underlying heart conditions. She provides care for patients ages 18 years and older with varying degrees of cardiovascular health states, encompassing disease prevention measures through chronic cardiovascular disease management.

She is married with two children and lives in the Houston area. In her spare time, she enjoys yoga, cardiovascular workouts, cooking and sewing, in addition to learning about personal finance.
