Advanced practice provider Haley Knowles is a board-certified adult gerontology acute care practitioner (AGACNP-BC) and critical care registered nurse (CCRN). She is also a certified clinical transplant coordinator and holds certificates from the American Heart Association in basic life support (BLS) and advanced cardiac life support (ACLS). She earned her undergraduate degree in nursing at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, Texas, and a master’s degree in nursing/acute care nursing practice with a specialization in adult gerontology from The University of Texas at Arlington.

Haley’s professional experience includes advanced heart failure, heart and lung transplantation, mechanical circulatory device applications and cardiothoracic intensive care. She is a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, American Board for Transplant Certification and American Association of Critical-Care Nurses.

Inspired by a desire for a career that helped people, Haley decided to enter health care when her stepfather developed heart problems. Her clinical interests focus on the cardiovascular system: interventional and structural cardiology; advanced heart failure; heart transplantation; and mechanical circulatory support, including intra-aortic balloon pumps (IABP), extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), Impella® and left ventricular assist devices (LVAD). Her interests also involve how cardiac disease affects every system within the body.

Haley approaches patient care in an individualized, holistic way. Addressing her patients’ mental, physical and emotional health allows her to develop personal relationships with them and their loved ones that lead to trust. She is an active listener who encourages her patients to voice their health concerns. Addressing each concern, she feels, encourages patients to see her as a caring advocate.

A self-described Peloton fanatic and foodie, Haley loves to spend time with her husband, stepson and two fur babies—Coach, a bernedoodle, and Birdie, a rottweiler. She also enjoys traveling to new places and reading medical textbooks and journals.
