Heartburn and Reflux Program at Memorial Hermann Greater Heights
General Information
At Memorial Hermann Greater Heights Hospital, our Heartburn and Reflux Program takes a comprehensive approach to the diagnosis and treatment of gastroesophageal reflux (GERD) and other related conditions for adult and geriatric patients. Patients may be self-referred or referred by a physician or other health care provider.
Our Program service starts with an initial patient evaluation and ends at the time the patient reports positive symptom control with medical management and/or surgical treatment. Our team consists of skilled affiliated physicians, including gastroenterologists, surgeons, radiologists and otolaryngologists and a dedicated nurse coordinator. Our multidisciplinary team works collaboratively to review each case and recommends the best diagnostic and treatment services for each individual patient.
Diagnostic Testing and Evaluation
Our patients can obtain comprehensive diagnostic testing conveniently and efficiently without the need to schedule multiple appointments.
- Services include:
- Upper endoscopy (EGD)
- Capsule endoscopy (motility study)
- High resolution manometry (motility study)
- Bravo Capsule pH test
- 24-hour impedance pH test
- Comprehensive swallowing evaluation (Esophagram)
Leading Treatment Options
Treatment includes a variety of non-surgical and surgical options including:
- Lifestyle changes
- Medical management
- LINX®, a minimally invasive approach to management of GERD.
- Fundoplication-Nissen, TIF, cTIF, Toupet, Dor
- A partial gastrectomy or gastric bypass may be appropriate for patients with severe symptoms and a BMI >35.
Dedicated Program Nurse Coordinator
Our Program coordinator guides patients through their treatment pathway ensuring they are able to obtain a consultation, diagnostic testing needed and personalized medical and/or surgical treatment options. The Program coordinator is available Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
