Jerry AshworthAt TIRR Memorial Hermann, we change lives by rewriting stories. Our therapists, nurses, affiliated physicians and other health care professionals work daily to improve outcomes, offer hope and maximize independence for people whose lives have been affected by disabling illness and injury.

In this issue of the TIRR Memorial Hermann Journal, we focus on our collaboration with physicians, bringing to the forefront the life-changing work they do on a daily basis. Working with an accomplished team of physicians who have shared goals – a genuine focus on patients and families, advances in rehabilitation through research, teaching the next generation of physiatrists – has enabled us to raise the bar on patient outcomes.

The 15 physicians quoted in this issue are among the 200 who have privileges at TIRR Memorial Hermann. Of those, 21 are the attending physicians that our nurses, therapists and other staff members work with every day. I am proud to work with this terrific team.

I came to TIRR Memorial Hermann from the acute care setting so rehabilitation was somewhat foreign to me. When Carl Josehart recruited me three years ago, I had the opportunity to tour the hospital for the first time. When I saw the hard work of comebacks in progress and friendly, welcoming faces, I quickly went from “I’m not sure I’m interested in rehabilitation” to “I really want to this job.”

I believe strongly in TIRR Memorial Hermann’s mission of independence and inclusion for people of all abilities. My immediate goal is to ensure a smooth transition and, beyond that, to continue to advance the progress made by all those who came before me.
