Thousands of surgeons, nurses and support staff from across the United States and around the world have learned to put advanced surgical technology to work at the Memorial Hermann Surgical Innovation and Robotics Institute (SIRI). In operation since January 2003, the training and research institute is one of the largest sites for robotic surgery in the nation. Today, the Institute offers an expanded program that includes training and research in a broad range of new techniques and technologies, as well as opportunities for medical device manufacturers to conduct technology-specific innovation validation.

• 4 operating rooms totaling 2,081 sq. ft.
• 3 conference rooms and FLEX space totaling 1,951 sq. ft., or approximately 500 sq. ft. each

Physician Education and Training

The Surgical Innovation and Robotics Institute provides physicians with a center for advanced surgical practice designed to produce quality clinical surgical outcomes. From laparoscopic technique to robotics, from cardiac surgery to urology, the Institute allows physicians to validate technology and master the latest surgical techniques in a controlled and safe environment.

Memorial Hermann hosts surgical teams from around the world who come to train in minimally invasive surgical techniques. The affiliation with McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) also offers the physicians of tomorrow an opportunity to witness firsthand how technology can help improve their outcomes and increase patient satisfaction.

Campus Highlights

Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center’s active robotic specialties include gynecology, general surgery, bariatric, urology, pediatric urology and surgical oncology. Affiliated physicians at Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center have performed nearly 4,500 robotic procedures and trained over 3,000 surgeons on the robot across six specialties, placing the campus as the second most experienced daVinci robotics hospital in the nation.

Internationally known, Erik B. Wilson, MD, Medical Director and affiliated Bariatric Surgeon at Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center, has led the charge in establishing the first bariatric and advanced gastrointestinal surgery robotics fellowship in the U.S.
