The No Surprises Act was signed into law on Dec. 27, 2020, as part of the Consolidated Appropriations Act and is designed to protect consumers from balance billing or “surprise medical bills.”

The requirements of the No Surprises Act apply to all health care providers and health care facilities, and are designed to protect consumers from:

  • Surprise bills for emergency services at an out-of-network facility.
  • Surprise bills for out-of-network air ambulance services.
  • Surprise bills for emergency medicine, anesthesiology, pathology, radiology, neonatology or diagnostic services from an out-of-network provider at an in-network facility.

Additionally, self-pay or uninsured patients will be provided a Good Faith Estimate that includes an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.

If you believe you have been incorrectly billed by Memorial Hermann, please contact us at (713) 338-5502 or (800) 526-2121.
