Board certified neurosurgeon Sam Javedan, MD, at Mischer Neuroscience Associates in The Woodlands, is using MRI guided focused ultrasound to treat Essential Tremor, a neurological condition that causes involuntary shaking. While medications and deep brain stimulation are still used to treat Essential Tremor, ultrasound is highly appealing for patients since it's non-invasive - no cutting except for the patient's hair.

Phyllis Lair lives in College Station, TX and sought out treatment in The Woodlands after her neurologist in College Station retired. She's experienced tremors in her dominant left hand for the past 20 years and it had gotten so bad, it impacted almost every aspect of her daily life. She worked around her limitations as best as she could, but it was challenging as she manages two businesses/restaurants (Harvey Washbangers and Stella Southern Cafe) with her family and also helps care for her grandchildren. She had the procedure in September and it has radically changed her life. She has a steady hand and is able to cook, eat, drink and work without shaking.
