At Memorial Hermann, our Surgical Services Service Line strives to ensure that every patient undergoes surgical procedures in a safe, technologically advanced and cost- effective environment, which leads to the best possible outcomes and highest patient satisfaction.
Electrocautery devices which help to control bleeding in the operating room can create smoke which has compounds that can be harmful to surgeons, nurses and patients. To maximize the safety of all, Memorial Hermann physicians have joined with their nurses in moving toward a smoke-free environment by creating a smoke evacuation policy and providing improved devices to manage this.
This commitment to a smoke-free environment has led to a 59% increase in the use of smoke evacuation electrocautery devices to date.
